The setup of this shot called for an Eames Lounge Chair. The problem was, we didn't own one, and we didn't have $3,500 in the budget to buy one at the only location in northern Utah that sells it. So we decided to design one in 3D and composite it into the shot.
Our model was originally sitting on a thin fold-out chair before he was cut out and placed on a high resolution 3D render of a Eames Lounge Chair. The lighting was duplicated into the 3d environment to match the lighting used in the shot.
